Louisville, KY (March 27, 2013) – Hopkins County is home to two of the 103 markets across the Commonwealth recently accepted into the 2013 Kentucky Farm Bureau Certified Roadside Farm Market Program. The Hopkins County members are: Brumfield Farm Market and Metcalfe Landscaping.
In joining the Kentucky Farm Bureau Certified Roadside Farm Market Program, these markets have committed to offering quality products and service to their customers. Their acceptance by Farm Bureau tells customers that they meet the highest standards of quality, freshness, and marketing appeal.
Brumfield Farm Market produces a variety of fresh seasonal vegetables and bedding plants at the market on Nebo Road in Madisonville. The market is open year round with jams, preserves, bread, meat, cheese, and a wide selection of Kentucky Proud products. For more information on Brumfield Farm Market visit brumfieldfarmmarket.com, call (270) 821-2721, and “Like” Brumfield Farm Market on Facebook.
Metcalfe Landscaping was established in 1921 by Thomas Metcalfe. Mark Metcalfe, current owner and grandson of the founder, believes one of the keys to the success of this family operation has been the support of all of Hopkins County and especially the Kentucky Farm Bureau Membership. Metcalfe Landscaping grows almost all of their spring plants right on the property, and they also have a variety of nursery plants, bedding plants, and hanging baskets at their market on Princeton Road in Madisonville. Metcalfe Landscaping Metcalfe also has fresh cut Christmas trees at the holidays. For more information on Metcalfe Landscaping call (270) 821-0350.
“The Certified Roadside Farm Market Program partners with our farm market members to educate consumers on the importance of locally grown products including fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, fiber, and value-added products,” said Mark Haney, president of Kentucky Farm Bureau. “Along with promotional efforts designed to attract consumers, the program also partners with farm market owners to educate the public about the importance of locally grown and produced products.”
