KSP Post 2 Releases May Activity Report
(Madisonville, KY.) – For the month of May 2013, Post 2 reports the following activity:
*Arrested 44 Impaired Drivers
*Issued a Total of 2,264 Citations
*Issued 669 Speeding Citations
*Issued 309 Seatbelt Citations
*Issued 25 Child Restraint Citations
*Issued 696 Courtesy Notices
*Investigated 70 Traffic Crashes
*Assisted 176 Stranded Motorists
*Responded to 964 Calls for Service
*Opened 48 Criminal Cases
*Made 268 Criminal Arrests
**There was one fatal crash that resulted in the loss of one life reported in the Post 2 District in May 2013. A single-fatality crash occurred in Christian County. The victim was wearing a seatbelt.
Through May 31, 2013, there have been 12 fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of 14 lives reported in the Post 2 District: 6 victims were not wearing seatbelts, 3 victims were wearing seatbelts, and the seatbelt status of 5 victims is not known. Two fatality crashes involved the suspected use of alcohol.
Through May 31, 2012, 12 people had been killed in 12 crashes in the Post 2 District.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555. Callers may remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel, and license number if possible.
Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. The KSP utilizes traffic safety checkpoints to promote safety for motorists and to provide a deterrent for those who violate laws contained in the Kentucky Revised Statutes.
The intent of a traffic safety checkpoint is to provide a highly visible, public safety service focusing on vehicular equipment deficiencies, confirming appropriate registration and insurance of vehicles, and the valid licensing of drivers. Violations of law or other public safety issues that arise shall be addressed.
