In spite of efforts by numerous public and private organizations and agencies to raise awareness of fire prevention, as of October 2012, the National Fire Protection Association ranks Kentucky seventh in the nation as it relates to deadly fires. The Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction’s Division of Fire Prevention, home to the State Fire Marshal, has invited interested parties to a roundtable discussion on fire prevention and the fire fatalities that continue to decimate our communities.
“The purpose of the roundtable is to identify stakeholders and untapped resources, as well as foster statewide partnerships for the purpose of implementing measures designed to protect our most valuable commodity, our families,” said William Swope, state fire marshal
Swope hopes the brainstorming session will come up with concrete ideas to form an action plan, one with a comprehensive program to decrease fire fatalities and increase the public’s awareness of how to prevent home fires.
“It has been said that there is strength in numbers, so in keeping with this year’s national fire prevention theme that ‘fire is everyone’s business,’ we hope we have enough stakeholders interested in creating a united front in fire prevention efforts,” said Swope.
The roundtable meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Eastern Time April 16, 2013, at the Department of Housing Buildings and Construction, 101 Sea Hero Way, in Frankfort. For more information about the event, contact the State Fire Marshal’s office at 502-573-0382 or by email at email@example.com.
