City of Madisonville Proposing Personal Property Tax Increase

THE CITY OF MADISONVILLE IS PROPOSING TO INCREASE PERSONAL PROPERTY TAXES.

YESTERDAY WAS THE FIRST READING OF PROPERTY TAX RATES.  THE NEW RATE WOULD BE 20.35 CENTS ON 100 DOLLARS OF PERSONAL PROPERTY, COMPARED TO 20.02 CENTS LAST YEAR.  THE NEW RATE WOULD BE REQUIRED FOR THE CITY TO RECEIVE ABOUT THE SAME AMOUNT OF MONEY AS LAST YEAR.  REAL ESTATE TAXES WOULD BE UNCHANGED.
AT THE HOPKINS COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION, IT WAS VOTED TO KEEP ALL RATES UNCHANGED, WHICH WOULD BE THE SAME RATES AS IN 2004.
