The Book It! 5K Run/Walk and Fun Walk will be held Saturday, Nov. 16.
Pre-registration forms are due by Friday, Nov. 8, but participants may still sign up on race day.
The event is organized by Celebrate Literacy Hopkins County, which includes Hopkins County Schools and Madisonville-Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce as lead partners. It brings attention to the 2nd annual Hopkins County Literacy Celebration and raises funds for this stu-dent-centered project.
The Book It! Course starts at Baptist Health’s Fitness Formula. Registration starts Nov. 16 at 8 a.m., with the race starting at 9 a.m. Participants who are 18 and younger will be given a book at the finish line.
Registration forms are available online at www.hopkins.kyschools.us/bookit5k.
As an addition to the Book It! 5K Run/Walk and Fun Walk, a trophy will be awarded to the school with the most participants this year. Encourage your teachers, staff, students and parents to take part. They can indicate which school they support on the morning of the race.
The Hopkins County Literacy Celebration will be held in March 2014. Events will include vis-its to the elementary and middle schools by author Bruce Coville, whose titles include “My Teacher is an Alien,” “The Monster’s Ring” and more, from March 3-8. His visit is made possible by the Hopkins County Education Foundation, Baptist Health Madisonville and Hopkins County Schools Title 1.
The month will also include the annual Young Authors Festival and the “Ask Me” Button pro-ject. The “Birdhouse Libraries,” which are in 13 locations throughout Hopkins County, are an-other project organized through Celebrate Literacy Hopkins County.
