The Madisonville Lions Club is proud to announce the winners of the 2013Man and Woman of the Year awards, an honor presented since 1945 to recognize local citizens for their civic contributions to the community.
The Man of the Year is Joe Blue of Madisonville. Mr. Blue served as Hopkins County Jailer since 2005. He is a member of the Fraternal Order of the Police, the American Jail Association, American Corrections Association, and the National Sheriff’s Association. Representing Hopkins County, Jailer Blue participated in a focus group in Washington, D.C., to discuss local concerns and issues related to jail programs in Kentucky. Locally, Jailer Blue has implemented many programs at the jail that benefit the whole community, most notably a garden project and apple orchard venture that provide food for the jail while educating inmates. Joe has fostered an atmosphere of service that encourages inmates to participate in community service projects and has implemented programs within the jail that educate and train inmates and prepare them for their return to the community.
